What is Reiki?
Reiki is a technique commonly called palm healing as a form of complementary and alternative medicine and is sometimes classified as oriental medicine by some professional bodies. Through the use of this technique, practitioners believe that they are transferring healing energy in the form of ki through the palms.
There are two main branches of Reiki, commonly referred to as Traditional Japanese Reiki and Western Reiki. Within both Traditional and Westernised forms of Reiki, there are three forms of degrees, commonly referred to as the First, Second, and Master/Teacher degree. According to Reiki practitioners and Masters, at First Degree, a Reiki practitioner is able to heal themself and others, at Second Degree is able to heal others distantly (commonly called distant healing) with the use of specialised symbols, and at Master/Teacher level is able to teach and attune others to Reiki. wikipedia.org
What is the origin of Reiki?
Reiki is known to be an ancient technique developed by seers in Tibet several thousand years ago. Knowledge seekers in the Orient studied energies and developed a system of sounds and symbols for universal healing techniques. Interestingly, it is this rich heritage of India that has transcended various healing system. Spiritual practices being common, the study of energetics were applied in yoga, ayurveda, martial arts and many more. Many different cultural manifestations emerged from this single root system. Reiki in the Modern World
Dr. Usui discovered Reiki during a mysticial experience on Mt. Kurama, a sacred mountain north of Kyoto, Japan in March, 1922. A few months later he started a Reiki organization called the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai who’s purpose was to practice and teach Reiki. health.indianetzone.com
